hello world

hi! I'm Sig (he/him). petz was a major special interest of mine as a kid, and I've recently fallen back into it. it's been about as long since I played the games as it's been since I made a website, but I'm gonna go ahead and figure that out as I go. done is better than perfect and all that.

I've been having an absolute blast going around and seeing what the community has been up to in recent years. in a way, it feels just like it did back then, following bespoke links from one website to another, feeling like I've struck buried treasure when I find a really cool breed to download. my kid self would lose their mind if they could see what folks are capable of nowadays! basically, I want to be part of it and contribute whatever I possibly can.

PetzA didn't exist when I left off, so I immediately spent a few tens of hours (lol, no big deal) messing around with selective breeding experiments -- not really knowing what I was doing, using tons of non-overwriting breeds, just vibing. then, someone said they liked one of my creatures(!) and the desire to share lit a fire under me. I figured out how to convert pet files to breed files (thanks, Waverly Academy! and started over. having dipped a toe into LNZ Pro for the first time, the descent (or ascent?) back into Petz insanity was underway.

I intend to learn the tools and create breeds that are truly my own, but in the meantime, the first project I'd like to share on here is a collection of selectively bred foxes, based primarily on breeds by two creators that I don't think have been active in many years.

the first is a red fox by Carrie of Cierra Breeds, which in my opinion is the most perfect fox I've ever seen in petz. look at its little face. perfection. the ideal blend of cute and realistic. I don't know how I'd ever create my own without simply copying this one ball for ball.

the other is the ragdoll breed from the wonderful Vickie's Petz Zoo. I had the idea to try to selectively breed some of the ragdoll markings onto the fox to create some marbled foxes. not only did this work great, I realized that some of the foxes were inheriting features from the ragdoll body -- the subtle arch of the back, the addball fluffs from the neck and tummy. it was just, *mwah*, chef's kiss. the work of these two talented creators complemented each other SO WELL. for some reason, I'm just so insanely tickled by the ability of the Petz breeding system to synthesize and expand upon the work of two different artists -- is there any other method quite like it?

Here's how to make a list:
